How
do you write SEO in 4 easy steps?
The 4-Step Guide to Writing SEO
Articles With Semrush
SEO is built on the foundation of
writing quality content. Like most things, quality is a result of a
process. Luckily, you can use content marketing tools to learn a simple
four-step process.
This workflow will teach you how to
research, outline an article, write your articles, and then review your content
for SEO.
Please note that the Content Marketing
Toolkit on Semrush (which contains Topic Research, SEO Content Template, and
SEO Writing Assistance) is only available to Guru subscribers or higher.
1. Research
in Topic Research and Keyword Magic Tool
A new idea is simply a combination of
two or more elements. If you are looking for new ideas, it's a good idea to
start by exploring what's already available.
Topic research will display all the Google queries and
headlines related to your topic. This allows you to get a sense of what's out
there and help you find new ideas. Simply enter a keyword or phrase into
the search bar to generate topic cards.
These cards can be sorted and filtered
to help you find trending topics, questions, or topics on a competitor's site.
Don't stop writing about a topic you
love!
You can save everything to your Favorite
Idea list. This way, you can always come back to this page when you
need more content ideas.
The keyword magic tool can
do more detailed keyword research. After you have entered your seed query,
this tool will return all possible related searches and phrases. This tool
will provide a huge list of keywords related to your topic after you have
entered a phrase or target word. It can also group related keywords into
sub-lists, so that you can explore all the entities.
SEO-friendly content includes page titles that match the
keywords. Look through the Keyword Magic Tool report to see if there are
any keywords you can use to create an outline for a web page or blog post.
2. Analyze
keywords by Keyword Difficulty
Keyword Difficulty Semrush's proprietary metric evaluates the
competition for a target keyword. This allows you to choose the low competition keywords to build
your page around.
It is available as a column in any
keyword reports on Semrush (it'll be labeled "KD%)). There are also
options to check Keyword Difficulty of keywords in bulk in Keyword Overview tool.
You can choose one primary target
keyword and up 3-5 related keywords/topics for your outline. These
keywords can be used in subsections or H2s within the text. Or, you could
simply include them in your page as an additional point if it makes sense.
Google prefers content that addresses a
wide range of questions about an entity or topic. Your content will be
more valuable if you are able to answer questions from multiple angles.
3. Create
an SEO Content Template to outline your content
Although it does not have magic in its
name, the SEO Content Template is another magic
tool on Semrush. You simply need to enter the keywords that you are
targeting and Semrush will provide a detailed template for your content, with
recommendations:
- Target word count/article length
- More words that are semantically
related (more words for your outline/writing).
- Target readability score
- Backlinks can be built from
specific domains
- Title page
- Meta description
- Target keywords should be used in
both H1s as well as text.
These suggestions can be combined with
keyword research and topic research to create a final outline. Once this is
done, you can start writing.
4. The
SEO Writing Assistant will grade you as you write
You can use the Search Engine
Optimization Writing Assistant plugin to check how your article
meets our recommendations as you write your content.
This plugin is available for your web
browser. It integrates your SEO Content Template with a Wordpress draft or
Google Document so that you can grade the content as it is being written.
The Writing Assistant provides more
detailed analysis of your content's tone to help you fine tune your
voice. It then rates your accuracy relative to the template (and how well
you have optimized your writing) using a 10-point scale.
You can then wait until the content is
as good as possible before you publish it online.
This workflow should prove to be useful
for your work. These are some additional tools that you might want to use
when optimizing a website:
