Take a look at these simple tips and ideas to
keep your lunch bags and keep lunches packed fresh.
We send our children to school every morning
with their lunches packed into their containers, however, there is a tendency
for things to spill out and get into the lunch bags. This isn't a problem
which is why one of my top dislikes is a sticky dirty lunch bag. Yuck!
Sounds familiar? Did you think so? I've
compiled a few ways to wash bags more easily and to make to keep them in good
condition for longer.
HOW
TO CLEAN LUNCH BAGS
Clean lunch bags ensure longevity and reduces
the likelihood of it developing any unpleasant smells. There are two
simple ways to clean it and based on the kind of bag you've got either one are
viable.
Machine Wash
The majority however, not all lunch bags that
are insulated can be washed in the machine. It can be done on a daily
basis, usually on Friday nights and the steps are easy.
- Clean Out
Get rid of any garbage or food items. - Soft With Cold Water
Place the lunch bags in the washing machine in a gentle wash cycle using cold water and mild detergent. - Dry it Out
When drying it is best to air dry however certain lunch bags are tough enough to stand up to the heat of a dryer. Be sure to check the labels on the bags to learn about their recommendations for treatment.
Tips A tip: The lunch bags I washed in a
separate manner or in one of our "old rags" load of laundry. I
do not recommend washing them using delicate knits or delicate
fabrics. The zippers that are heavy on lunch bags may cause damage.
Hand Wash
This is the best method of taking care of
lunch bags and can ensure they remain in good condition for a long period of
time. Washing lunch bags by hand is somewhat like this:
- Soap and Water
Fill your basin with warm water along with a little dishwashing detergent. - Wipe Down
Utilizing a sponge or a cloth take it out of the soapy water. Clean the outside and inside from the bag. - Rinse and Dry
The best method of washing it is to use an ointment that has been dampened by fresh water. After that, dry it using a towel and let it dry completely with air. I'll sometimes lay it out open and upside down, in my dish strainer , to let it dry over night.
HOW
TO SPOT CLEAN LUNCH BAGS
I suggest doing regular spot checks to ensure
that the lunch bags in good in good condition. It's as easy as wiping down
the inside with an antibacterial wipe natural cleaning rag and cleaner.
I enjoy making my own solution that consists of
equal parts of vinegar hydrogen peroxide, or water in the form of a spray
bottle. The solution disinfects and cleans the inside. If you're
concerned over the smell of vinegar, don't be concerned! It goes away when
it is dry.
